Football season is in full swing, which means you’ve probably been spending your Saturdays in front of the TV, at your favorite bar or tailgating in the parking lot of your favorite team’s stadium! No matter where you’re watching the game, you can up the ante on your tailgating treats with these five recipes for NCAA-worthy cocktails!
#1: The Ohio State University Peanut Butter Martini
Combine chocolate syrup, chocolate vodka, peanut rum, chocolate liqueur and cream for this deliciously sweet cocktail. Drizzle the chocolate syrup along the sides of a chilled glass and combine the remaining ingredients in a shaker with ice. Layer the drink to resemble the head of Brutus Buckeye, and serve with a peanut butter cup garnish for added pizazz.
#2: The University of Alabama Cherry Mojito
Evoke the crimson color of the Alabama nation with the southern class of a good mojito. Prepare a simple syrup ahead of time by boiling water, adding sugar until dissolved and cooling in the fridge. Blend syrup with fresh cherries, and add mint leaves, lime juice, white rum and club soda. Serve with more fresh cherries as a garnish for the ultimate tailgate cocktail.
#3: The University of Florida Blood Orange Margarita
This recipe for an orange margarita is sunshine in a glass, perfect for an early or midday game! With the classic orange representation of the Sunshine State, combine two ounces of tequila, one ounce of your favorite orange liqueur, 2/3 ounce of fresh orange juice and 1/3 ounce of lime juice. Salt the rim of your glass and add an orange slice for garnish!
#4: The Michigan State University Spartan
Not for the faint of heart, the Spartan combines Hennessy, vodka, Hawaiian Punch, Sagatiba Pura (similar to rum and made from sugarcane juice), sugar and lime juice for a powerful punch. Add an extra lime for garnish!
#5: The University of Southern California Trojan Sangria
Celebrate fall by combining some of that fine California wine with your favorite fall fruits for every Californian’s favorite drink. Sangria is easy to adapt to your personal taste, but consider combining white wine, soda water, apple slices, lime, lemon, ginger, cinnamon sticks, cloves and honey for an amazing fall sangria perfect for game day!
