Cocktail Recipes to Try Now that Lent is Over

Lent is the period between Ash Wednesday and Easter Sunday when Catholics and other Christian denominations fast to pay tribute to Jesus’ 40 days of fasting, which is chronicled in the book of Matthew. While some people choose one specific vice — like chocolate, soda, television or Facebook — to abstain from during Lent, many traditional Catholics do not eat meat or drink alcohol during this reflective time.

If you’ve been fasting this Lenten season, celebrate your triumph with these delicious, unique cocktail recipes that are sure to put a smile on your face!

Baileys Espressotini

If you love liquor and coffee, this is the cocktail for you. You’ll need 75 ml of Baileys® Coffee Irish Cream Liqueur, 35 ml Smirnoff No. 21® Vodka, one shot of espresso, 25 ml of chocolate syrup and a sprinkle of chocolate shaving. Fill a shaker with ice, and add the Baileys, espresso, vodka and syrup. Shake until the liquid is cold and strain into a glass. Garnish your drink with chocolate shavings.

American Whiskey Punch

This delicious punch was created by Derek Brown, mixologist and co-owner of The Passenger and The Columbia Room in Washington D.C. You’ll need one cup of sugar, two lemons, 16 ounces of rye whiskey and four cups of water. Combine the sugar and lemon peels, and add lemon juice, one cup of water and sugar to mixture until the sugar dissolves. Add whiskey and the remaining water, and serve in a large punch bowl with ice.

El Presidente

If you like rum and Coke, try the El Presidente. Combine 1.5 ounces of white rum, 1.5 ounces of Dolin Vermouth Blanc, 1 tsp. orange Curacao, ½ tsp. real grenadine and a thinly cut orange peel. Stir ingredients well with ice and strain into a chilled glass.
