I know it's just anecdotal, but I'm a fairly regular drinker who lived in Flagstaff, AZ for 7 years. Flagstaff is 7000 ft above sea level. Beer was pricey there, so I had to monitor how much I bought, and therefore, how much I drank. Well, now that I'm in Arkansas, I find myself buying and drinking more, but just not even getting tipsy. This is obviously not a scientific study, but something is way different. This applies to whiskey and wine, as well, just in case you might blame it on AR not allowing high abv% on their beers. It's just a very obvious difference.

I too think that there is something to do with elevation & intoxication. I live at 2200 feet (roughly) above sea level, and I've quite the tolerance. However, when I am in Havana, Cuba, I CANNOT seem to get my drink on. I can sit and drink from sun up to sun down, and all I feel is dehydrated; no buzz, no slurred speech, nothing. My suggestion is live somewhere close to sea level, and take your vacations someplace elevated (NOT vice versa). Your liquor tab will DEFINITELY be smaller!

I believe McFarland's theory. I drank in a town that was at a high altitude and got drunk off of just a few beers and jager bombs. I usually have high tolerance and can drink a lot more than I did last night without getting drunk off of so little.
